It's no secret, like you, like everyone else, I'm busy. I'm always on the lookout for something that will make me more productive and faster at what I'm working on. With so many social media, marketing, and productivity tools and techniques promising to solve all your problems, it's tempting to think you can turn them all on, go on a luxury vacation, and wait for the money to roll in. Unfortunately, more often than not, you'll end up boring people or giving them the wrong impression. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of these tools (especially Buffer, fits and Social Oomph) but they should be used correctly and not as a substitute for interacting with real people.1. Twitter Automatic Direct Messages Direct Messages I didn't do a proper count, but I estimate that about 99% of the employee data direct messages I receive on Twitter are automated. At first I didn't mind, but now due to the large number of automated DMs, I have to admit that I just ignore them. They simply have no value and end up cluttering and losing legitimate messages. Most of these DMs are about to "can't wait to read" my tweets or ask me to connect with them on various other social media channels like Facebook or Google+. I'm not saying automatic DMs are always bad, sometimes they can work. Beth McShane has an interesting method in which she sets up an automatic DM containing the words "Knock Knock" . It's hard to resist trusting a "who's there" tweet and she found that more often than not a decent conversation would start. We are all real people (at least I hope so) and we all like to interact with humans and not with robots!
